About the Role
Specialty Paving and Grading is hiring a Paver / Laydown Machine Operator to help deliver smooth, safe, high-quality asphalt work. This role is responsible for operating the paver safely, maintaining consistent mat quality, communicating with the crew, and helping keep production moving without sacrificing safety or workmanship.
We want someone who takes pride in clean work, protects the equipment, and communicates early when something is off.
What Success Looks Like:
-Safety is protected, no shortcuts, no careless operation
-Paving work is completed to grade, depth, and spec
-Equipment is operated without damage and maintained properly
-Communication with the foreman and crew is clear and timely
-Production keeps moving with minimal rework or delays
-Key Responsibilities
-Safely operate the paver / laydown machine during asphalt paving operations
-Maintain awareness of mat thickness, grade, slope, joint quality, and overall finish
-Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections
-Monitor machine operation and report issues before they become breakdowns
-Coordinate with the foreman, dump truck drivers, and ground crew during paving
-Follow job plans, layout, and production direction without cutting corners
-Keep the machine clean, fueled, greased, and ready for the next shift
-Work safely around traffic, utilities, crew members, and active jobsites
Requirements:
-Experience operating a paver / laydown machine preferred
-Ability to work safely in active paving environments
-Strong awareness of grade, mat quality, and jobsite conditions
-Ability to follow direction and communicate clearly with the crew
-Ability to pass a drug test
-Reliable transportation
-Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
-Punctual, dependable, and professional
-Ability to travel when needed
