This is a project guitar and should only be taken on by someone looking for a project- One of these in excellent condition is worth over $2,000. These are highly sought after, especially with this wood. This is a Koa Carvin V220 from I presume the 1980s-I do not know the exact year. At some point it was refinished in a reddish orange color. The previous owner told me it originally was Koa and at one point he did all the modifications to it and refinished it. The refinish job is poor, while not the worst job I have seen its not great either. It has plenty of orange peel and appears to be spray paint. There is also a white base coat that I assume is primer. I believe a new truss rod cover, jack plate and rear cover was made for it- featuring a certain flag. I was told this was a tribute to General Lee from the TV show Dukes of Hazzard. The rear cover doesn't fit perfectly which I believe is why it must be a remade replacement, although I do not know. I believe the serial number originally would have been on the jackplate which as said appears replaced and doesn't have any numbers on it. The nut looks as if it was replaced as well. Obviously the pickups have been replaced, I see no maker marks on them so I assume they are generic knock offs. The wiring leaves a lot to be desired and needs repair. Electronically this guitar is not functioning right. It appears both pickups work, the switches seem to do nothing and the knobs while doing things I am not sure if they are doing the right things- Electrically it needs completely rewired. I bought this guitar from a smoker and after 2 months of sitting in my garage it still smells like cigarettes. The paint has dings and dents in it. You can see the primer exposed in spots and it looks like a red sharpie was used here and there. One of the edges of a point is missing the paint completely, I assume from leaning it on that edge. This allows you to see the Koa wood is indeed under this paint. Also you can see some raw wood in the control cavity- see photos.
While it's rough it is the cheapest V220 you'll find and it's the cheapest Koa V220 that will probably ever hit the market. It has a great foundation for building a unique guitar. Leave the finish or strip it and reveal the koa underneath. The ebony board and frets are in good shape. It has a nice set of Schaller Da Vinci tuners and also the original Kahler 2300 bridge with tremolo arm.
Due to the nature of this guitar it is sold as is and non functional. It will need work before played, at minimum rewired , restrung and set up. No case.
